What does Garderobe accept?
We accept designer clothes, handbags, shoes and accessories. We accept classic luxury brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel, as well as items from up-and-coming designers. Please note that the final approval of an item is subject to the physical examination of the item once it has been received by the Garderobe team.
What items may get rejected?
Garderobe is highly committed to ensuring that all parties have a good experience. In order to meet this commitment we are unable to accept certain items that do not meet our key criteria. This includes:
  • Any items that are heavily worn, marked or faulty;
  • Certain non-resalable clothing categories such as lingerie;
  • Any brands that are not deemed to be luxury i.e. high-street brands; and
  • Any items that are believed to be counterfeit goods.
Please note that we have the right to reject items after they have been received. Items are normally rejected if they are received not as described or if we believe they are not in line with current trends.
What happens if an item is rejected after it is received by the Garderobe team?
If this happens, you can either pick up your item from our store in Dubai or we will return it to you via Aramex at our expense. Alternatively, we would be happy to donate it to charity on your behalf.
Does my item have to be in perfect condition?
The better the condition of the item, the more likely it is to be sold quickly at a higher price. We do accept goods with some signs of wear and tear or those with minor defects however all clothing must be dry-cleaned before being sent to us. Please note that we have the right to reject items after they have been received if they are not as described or if we believe they are not in line with current trends.
Does my item have to be dry-cleaned?
Any article of clothing that has been previously worn must be dry-cleaned before being sent to us. If upon examination we believe that the article has not been dry-cleaned, it will be returned to you. Please note that clothing will not be accepted if it has any stains, marks, odours or faults.
Garderobe does offer a dry cleaning service for items that have an original retail price of less than 7,000 AED. Any dry-cleaning carried out by us however must be agreed to before the item will be listed on the Garderobe Website. Dry cleaning is charged at 90 AED per item and will be deducted from your balance when any of your items are sold. Please note that if the item is returned from the dry cleaners and they are unable to remove a stain, we will send the item back to you at your own expense.
How does Garderobe price items?
Garderobe’s in-house style team will price all items. A range of criteria will be considered when pricing items including, but not limited to:
  • Retail price;
  • Resale market;
  • Age of item;
  • Quality;
  • Condition; and
  • Demand for the product.
A provisional price will be proposed within three days of receipt of the ‘Sell your item’ form. This price will then be confirmed on receipt and examination of the item.
What happens if I do not agree with the price proposed?
If you do not agree with the price proposed, the item will not be listed on the Garderobe Website. The item will only be listed once you have approved the price. If you disagree with the price proposed by our experts please let us know and we will attempt to revise the price accordingly. If a price cannot be agreed upon, and the item has been received by us, the item will be returned to you at your own cost.
How do I get my items to you?
There are three options. You can either:
  • Drop your items off at our store in Dubai (please see our Contact Us page for more details);
  • Have your items sent directly to the Garderobe store (please see our Contact Us page for more details); or
  • Book a free collection through us (please see our Collections page for more details).
What happens if the buyer has a question?
If the buyer has a question we will do our best to answer it, however if we are unable to answer it, we will contact you.
Will you ship the item to the buyer once they have bought it?
Yes, we will ship the item to the buyer or alternatively the buyer can pick up their item directly from the Garderobe store.
How long do you keep items for?
Each item will be listed for a period of 12 weeks. At this point, if the item has not been sold we may propose a price reduction or return the item to you. Please note if a price reduction is proposed we will always agree this with you in advance.
What happens if I change my mind and want my item back?
If this happens, just let us know and we will send the item back to you, however this will be at your own expense. If you request your item back before the end of the 12 week listing period, you will also be charged an administration fee of 100 AED.
What happens if my item does not sell?
We will do our best to ensure that your item sells however if it does not, we will offer you two options:
  • We can return the item to you; or
  • We can donate the item to charity on your behalf.
What happens if my item is returned by the buyer?
If your item is returned to us by the buyer, it will be re-listed on the website at the same price as it was previously listed for and we will re-start the ‘clock’ on the listing period. The listing period is 12 weeks.
What do you charge as commission for selling an item?
It is completely free to list an item with us. We do however charge a commission of 40% of the final sale price for bags and 50% of the final sale price for clothing and shoes. This means that the seller retains 60% of the final sale price for bags and 50% of the final sale price for clothing and shoes . Please email us however if you are selling a Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton or Christian Louboutin bag or pair of shoes and we will be happy to discuss reduced commission rates.
How does the seller get paid?
When your item has been sold and paid for, we will hold onto the money for up to 28 days. This is to allow for potential returns. If the item is not returned, we will transfer the money, minus our commission, straight into your bank account.
Do you guarantee the authenticity, quality and condition of items?
Each item that is listed on the Garderobe Website will have been through a detailed assessment by our in-house style team before it is listed. If there is any doubt about the authenticity of an item it will not be listed. We also make sure that we mention any imperfections or signs of wear on the product page of each listing.
How do I know that the item will be in good condition when I receive it?
We only list pre-loved goods that are of a high quality. Where there are imperfections, we make sure to highlight these clearly on the listing.
How are sizes for items displayed?
The size of each item will be mentioned on the listing. On every product page we have also provided a size conversion chart for your convenience.
When I buy an item, how do I receive it?
You can either collect your item directly from the Garderobe store, or we will courier the item to you. Shipping costs will be added to your item at checkout. Please see our Shipping & Delivery page for more details.
